1) Peninsulares: Spaniards who were born in Spain, and were living in the New World. They held the highest ranks in the Governments of the colonies.
Creoles: People born in the colonies but having Spanish ancestry. They own land and have money, but cannot hold high positions in government.
Mulattos: A person with mixed white and black ancestry.
Simon Bolivar: A Venezuelan-born general, who waged wars against the Spanish monarchy, and later founded nations; however, they later seceded into other countries.
Jose de San Martin: An Arentinean general who also helped liberate the Spanish colonies.
Miguel Hidalgo: A priest in the village of Dolores who issued a call for rebellion against the Spanish.
